The time clock
Clocking in and out, and fixing a forgotten clock-out.
Anyone can clock themselves in and out — that is the job, not a privilege. Correcting somebody else’s hours is a permission, and asks for a written reason.
A forgotten clock-out
We flag it rather than guessing a going-home time. Inventing one would put a number on somebody’s payslip that nobody chose. Fix the entry and the hours are right again.
Clocking in twice returns the shift you already have open rather than starting a second one. The usual cause is a tap that looked like it did nothing.
Why the reason is required
Those numbers become wages. When somebody queries a payslip months later, the reason is on the entry itself, which is where anybody settling a dispute will actually look.
