The cash drawer
Opening, counting and closing the cash drawer.
If you take cash, open the drawer at the start of the day and close it at the end. Everything cash that happens in between is attached to that session, which is what makes a discrepancy findable.
- 1 Open the drawer Cash drawer. Enter the float you are starting with, if you use one.
- 2 Work as normal Cash payments and cash tips attach themselves to the open session, and a refund given in cash comes off what the drawer should hold.
- 3 Close and count Enter what is actually in the drawer. We show you what we expected, and the difference.
A difference is recorded, not hidden. That is the point of counting: a drawer that always balances exactly is a drawer nobody is really counting.
The drawer will not open.
Somebody else may already have it open — there is one session per location at a time. The screen names who.
I closed it by mistake.
Open a new session. The closed one keeps its own record; nothing is lost.
Not available yet Recording petty cash taken out of the drawer.
