No-shows and late cancellations
Setting a fee, when the fee invoice is raised, collecting it, and waiving one.
Set this per location. Two things: how much notice you want, and what the fee is. Every part of it defaults to charging nothing, so nothing is taken until you deliberately set it up.
The difference between the two
A no-show raises a fee whenever you have one set — there is no notice to weigh up. A late cancellation only raises one if you tick that box as well, and only when the notice given was shorter than your window.
If you set no notice window, there is no such thing as a late cancellation — only an outright no-show can ever raise a fee. That is the setting people most often miss.
The invoice is raised for you; the money is not taken
Marking somebody a no-show, or cancelling late when that is ticked, raises a fee invoice and issues it there and then. A flat fee is capped at what was booked, so a $40 fee on a $25 nail trim comes to $25, not more than the appointment was worth.
Nothing is charged to a card on its own. Collect the fee like any other invoice: charge their saved card from the invoice, or take it at their next visit.

Waiving one
Open the fee invoice and waive it. It is voided rather than deleted, so the record shows a fee was raised and forgiven. Once a fee has been paid, waiving is out — that is a refund.
